WALKS & WATERFALLS

There's no denying it, big mountains often mean big waterfalls. And the area around our chalet in Salzburgerland is no different. The mountains are most definitely more than sizeable and some of the waterfalls are absolutely HUGE!

All year round you can head off in to the wilderness in search of magical cascading waterfalls and pretty much every time, you'll hit the jackpot. Whether that's the powerful plunging of the falls in spring & summer, the fairy-tale trickling of the waters in autumn, or the ice sculptures created by the water frozen in time in the coolness of winter - these natural wonders are mesmerising at any time of the year.

Experiencing the waterfalls in spring and early summer is always an absolute must for us here at the Landhaus Bergner Alm chalet. Where the thawing of the winter's snow from the surrounding mountains means that water is in an abundance, and the waterfalls are therefore at their most powerful and literally bursting at the seams!

This July, we decided to explore another hike that was new to us, the 'Wasserfalle Runde' in Kolm Saigurn, just a short 30 minutes' drive from the chalet. This 'Waterfall Loop' has its name as it is exactly that, a hiking loop in which you stumble across waterfall after waterfall. In just a short 1.5 hour hike, we counted a total of 14 waterfalls, yes 14! For each of them, you could get super close to their water, and either wade through the river offshoots of even stand under the cascading showers. It was a warm day so of course we did both of these things. Why not hey!? Needless to say we finished the day feeling refreshed, invigorated and revitalised, and will definitely head back again soon.

Next time you're staying at the chalet, why not pack an Austrian style picnic, and go in hunt of the beautiful waterfalls and the treasures that they have to offer. We promise you won't be disappointed.
