Stand Up Paddle Boarding, also known as SUP, is a water-based activity that has exploded in popularity over the last few years, and for good reason! It's a killer full-body workout and enables you to experience water in a totally different way.
It's also extremely accessible on Lake Zell. There are multiple SUP rentals on Lake Zell, our nearest being just 5 minutes from the chalet at Haus Gabi where Stand Up Paddle Boards can be rented for anything from an hour to the full day. Courses are also available in the area, for beginners wanting to learn the sport, or for people who have tried Stand Up Paddle Boarding before but would like a bit of a refresh before taking to the water. SUP in Motion is a SUP rental company on Lake Zell that offers courses for all ages and abilities, as well as guided tours around Lake Zell.
There are also endless access points to the water of Lake Zell so you can pick and choose where to start your SUP adventure, ensuring that each time you hit the waters for a paddle it will be a totally different experience. We often start our SUP tour at Haus Gabi, and then either paddle all the way over to Zell am See for a coffee or an ice cream subject to the time of day, or paddle to Thumersbach for a cocktail and dinner at the Beach Club.
Another absolute favourite of ours when it comes to Stand Up Paddle Boarding on Lake Zell, is to pack some food for dinner, and head down to the lake for a sunset SUP. There's something just so magical about gently gliding on the lake as the sun sets behind the mountains turning the sky into an explosion of colours.
SUP yoga on Lake Zell is also so much fun! We can pretty much guarantee you'll tumble into the water at some point during your yoga class on a stand-up paddle board, but if you embrace it as part of the experience, we promise you'll have the most amazing time.
Equally, if Stand Up Paddle Boarding doesn't quite sound like your thing, there are so many other water-based sports on Lake Zell that you could try. Kayaking, windsurfing, wakeboarding, & parasailing...the list goes on! So why not put on your swimmers and head down to the lake to give some of them a go?
