They say that time flies, and it really does. This week, Chris and I celebrated the milestone of five years of living in Austria. That's five years since we packed up our London lives and followed our dream to live in the mountains. Five years since we started our venture with the Landhaus Bergner Alm holiday chalet and Austrian Alpine Retreats. And five years of feeling so lucky to live in such a jaw-droppingly beautiful country.
To celebrate the occasion, we went on a hike, naturally (those of you who know us really won't be surprised to hear that this is how we choose to celebrate!). There are so many incredible hikes in the area, that it was pretty tricky to decide which to embark on for the special occasion. In the end, we decided to hike to the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte as it met all of the criteria. Cracking panoramic mountain views? Tick. Impressive waterfalls? Tick. Delicious mountain food? TICK.
There are several different ways to hike to the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte, which are of varying difficulty. Whether you're in search of a blue route to gently meander, or perhaps more of a "Klettersteig" (climbing route) that will be sure to get your adrenaline pumping, hiking to the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte could be exactly what you're looking for. On this occasion, we opted for the slightly more daring climbing route through a waterfall canyon, which was amazing on so many levels. Dangling over a river whilst staring at towering waterfalls is a memory that's there to stay. We even saw mountain sheep and a Chamois on our travels. How quintessentially alpine!
We offer our guests loads of advice on the best things to see and do in the area, like this spectacular hike in the Stoney Sea. All of the advice we give has been tried and tested by ourselves over the last five years. We like to call it insider knowledge, which we love to share with our guests. Feel free to contact us if you'd like to book your next mountain adventure in Austria. We'd love to share some of our insider tips with you!
